Remaining filament is a scale problem. If you can take the plastic off the spool, the scale reads the plastic. If you cannot, you need an empty-spool weight that the maker published for that spool, then subtract it from the weight of the spool you still have. Runout is the printer stopping. Dimensional accuracy is diameter and shrinkage. Neither page is a tare chart.
The four published empty-spool weights
These are the catalog rows whose provenance names `emptySpoolWeightsG` on a manufacturer page. The table order is the order those records were written, not a quality ranking.
ELEGOO PETG HF lists 230–260 °C (446–500 °F), a bed of 65–75 °C (149–167 °F), and drying at 60 °C (140 °F) for 8 h. The FAQ states an empty spool weight of 154 ± 10 g on a 1 kg spool. ELEGOO PETG Glitter lists 240–260 °C (464–500 °F), a bed of 65–75 °C (149–167 °F), and drying at 60 °C (140 °F) for 8 h, with the same 154 ± 10 g empty spool on a 1 kg spool. ELEGOO ASA-CF lists 250–280 °C (482–536 °F) and a bed of 90–100 °C (194–212 °F), and the FAQ states 154 ± 10 g empty on a 1 kg spool. The checked note on that row records a drying conflict, 80 ± 5 °C (176 ± 9 °F) for 8 h on the spec table and 85 °C (185 °F) for 8 h in the description, so no drying figure is repeated here. ELEGOO TPU 72D lists 210–240 °C (410–464 °F), a bed of 30–45 °C (86–113 °F), drying at 70 °C (158 °F) for 8 h, and Shore 72D. The FAQ and the checked note state an empty spool weight of 165 ± 5 g on a 1 kg spool. Each citation dates the US page check as 17 October 2026. Each record was verified 16 October 2026.
Hundreds of other rows have a number in the empty-spool field. Their provenance lists spool weight and does not name the empty-spool field. Those numbers are not used on this page.
Pros and cons
Pros
- The four tares are the manufacturer pages whose provenance names the empty-spool field.
- The comment gives a method that works when the maker has not published a tare.
Cons
- Most catalog rows are not on this list. An imported number without that provenance field is not treated as a tare.
Printer considerations
- A score-7 comment says to despool the filament and weigh it, and that a small amount can still feed without the spool. The other method in that comment is to count the loops, measure the circumference, and estimate the remaining length. Neither method needs a guessed tare.
- Subtract an empty-spool weight only when it is the weight for that exact spool. The four figures above are four product pages. A PETG HF tare is not a PLA Basic tare. PLA Basic's record does not store an empty-spool weight.
- Filament weight on the label, often 1 kg on these ELEGOO pages, is the plastic, not the spool plus plastic. Remaining plastic is the scale reading minus the published empty weight, when you have one.

Questions
Can I use one empty-spool weight for every brand?
No. The manufacturer-attributed figures in this catalog are 154 ± 10 g on ELEGOO PETG HF, PETG Glitter, and ASA-CF, and 165 ± 5 g on ELEGOO TPU 72D, from the US pages cited on those rows, catalog citation checked 17 October 2026. A different brand needs its own published tare, or a scale. Runout is what the printer does when the plastic runs out. Dimensional accuracy is diameter, not remaining mass.
What if the maker has not published an empty-spool weight?
Use the score-7 method on r/BambuLab. Despool and weigh the plastic, or count loops and measure the circumference for a length estimate. Do not borrow 154 g from an ELEGOO page for a spool that page does not describe.
