# Do more walls or more infill make parts stronger?

Add walls before you raise infill for most functional parts, and treat 3–5 walls with 15–40% infill as the community summary rather than a catalog setting.

For a part that has to take a load, add walls before you fill the middle. The 3–5 wall and 15–40% infill band is the community summary. It is not stored on any filament row. [Strength](/answers/strength) is which material to load. This page is the slicer choice after that.

## What the catalog stores

[Prusament PETG](/brand/prusament/petg) lists 240–260 °C (464–500 °F) and 70–90 °C (158–194 °F). [PolyMax PLA](/brand/polymaker/polymax-pla) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F) and 25–60 °C (77–140 °F), with a drying temperature of 55 °C (131 °F) and no hours. [eSUN PLA+](/brand/esun-3d/pla-plus) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F) and 50–70 °C (122–158 °F), and drying is not stored. [Bambu PLA Basic](/brand/bambu-lab/pla-basic) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F), 35–45 °C (95–113 °F), and drying at 50 °C (122 °F) for 8 h. None of those records has a wall count. [PLA](/material/pla), [PETG](/material/petg), and [PLA+](/material/pla-plus) are the material hubs.

## User settings in the bank

One variant describes a wood PLA birdhouse at 3 walls and 30% gyroid and asks whether wood pulp helped it last outdoors. The supplied top comments on r/3Dprinting 1w14zsq are about sparrows in that birdhouse and about PLA in the sun, including a boomerang left on a dashboard. The outdoor question is [Can PLA be used outdoors?](/answers/pla_outdoor). The 3-wall line is not a strength test in the comments we have.

A variant names PLA+ at 205 °C (401 °F) and a 60 °C (140 °F) bed, 2 walls, and 100% infill. That nozzle sits inside the eSUN PLA+ range of 190–230 °C (374–446 °F). The 60 °C (140 °F) bed sits inside the 50–70 °C (122–158 °F) bed. Two walls and 100% infill are still that user's choices. A variant names a PETG print at 230 °C (446 °F), an 80 °C (176 °F) bed, and 15% gyroid. Prusament PETG's nozzle starts at 240 °C (464 °F), so 230 °C (446 °F) is not that row.

## Comments that answer a different failure

A comment on r/FixMyPrint x5ly22 says the failure is bad bed adhesion. Another says 100% infill wastes a lot of filament. [Bed adhesion](/answers/bed_adhesion) is the first of those. The second agrees with spending plastic on walls rather than a solid interior, and it is one comment, not a measured strength curve.

r/FixMyPrint 1eqtpsj, r/FixMyPrint 12xa9z5, and r/prusa3d 1kg80ll are in the bank. The supplied excerpts do not include a wall or infill number from those threads.

## What the community says

The editorial summary says more walls add more strength than more infill for most functional parts, and that 3–5 walls with 15–40% infill is typical. This catalog does not store either number. A comment on r/FixMyPrint x5ly22 says the pictured failure is bad bed adhesion, and another says 100% infill wastes a lot of filament. A comment on r/3Dprinting 1w14zsq is about PLA left in the sun, including a dashboard boomerang, which belongs on the PLA outdoor page. The 3-wall, 30% gyroid line is a variant phrasing about a wood PLA birdhouse, not a measured strength result in the supplied comments.
