# What filament is safe for kids' toys?

Hobby filament is not certified toy-safe, food-safe, or infant-safe unless the maker publishes a specific certification. These three PLA rows do not. A comment on a baby-item thread warns about shards along layer lines. That is a choking warning from a comment, not a material ranking.

A toy that a child mouths is a food-contact problem plus a breakage problem. Hobby PLA does not become toy-safe because the word PLA is on the spool. [Food contact](/answers/food-contact) is layer grooves, pigments, and the nozzle. [Medical and skin contact](/answers/medical) is the certification string this catalog does store, on a different sheet, and that page says the sheet still leaves suitability with the customer. [Strength](/answers/strength) is load. None of them is a children's-product mark.
## Three PLA windows, no toy mark

[Bambu PLA Basic](/brand/bambu-lab/pla-basic) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F), a bed of 35–45 °C (95–113 °F), and drying at 50 °C (122 °F) for 8 h, sheet checked 14 October 2026. [PolyLite PLA](/brand/polymaker/polylite-pla) lists a nozzle of 190–230 °C (374–446 °F) in the Open Filament Database, dataset imported 13 October 2026, and the US product page checked 14 October 2026 lists a bed of 25–60 °C (77–140 °F) and drying at 55 °C (131 °F) for 6 h. [ELEGOO PLA Basic](/brand/elegoo/pla-basic) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F), a bed of 35–65 °C (95–149 °F), and drying at 50 °C (122 °F) for 8 h, page checked 14 October 2026. The page states 50 ± 5 °C (122 ± 9 °F). No safety certification is listed. The order is three published PLA windows. It is not a ranking of which one is safer in a child's hand.
