# Are refill spools / reusable spools worth it?

The comments that answer the question say Bambu refills work when the winding steps are followed, including pushing the filament down and locking the spool. They do not measure plastic saved or money saved. A refill is packaging. The print temperatures belong to the polymer.

A refill is filament wound for a spool you already have. Worth it, in the comments that actually answer, means the winding holds if you follow the steps. It does not mean a measured saving. [The AMS](/answers/ams) is which plastics that feeder takes. [Tangles](/answers/tangle) is a knot on the spool. [Best brand](/answers/brand_best) is the brand question, which these comments also do not settle.
## What the rows actually publish

[Bambu PLA Basic](/brand/bambu-lab/pla-basic) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F), a bed of 35–45 °C (95–113 °F), and blast-oven drying at 50 °C (122 °F) for 8 h, sheet checked 14 October 2026. The US store page says the filament is AMS compatible and that parameters are stored in RFID. It does not list a refill discount. [Overture PLA Refill](/brand/overture/pla-refill) lists 190–220 °C (374–428 °F), a bed of 25–60 °C (77–140 °F), and drying at 50 °C (122 °F) for 7 h, page checked 17 October 2026. [Overture High Speed PETG Refill](/brand/overture/high-speed-petg) lists 230–260 °C (446–500 °F), a bed of 65–70 °C (149–158 °F), and drying at 60 °C (140 °F) for 5 h, page checked the same day. No safety certification is listed. None of the three stores an empty-spool weight. The order is the brand the comments discuss, then two refill products that publish settings. It is not a ranking of which refill to buy.
## What the community says

[a Reddit thread in r/BambuLab](https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1sbg3ja/) says follow Bambu's instructions or the filament comes off the spool, and that people usually do that only once.

[a Reddit thread in r/BambuLab](https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1sbg3ja/): names step 4, pushing the filament down, and locking the spool, and says some colors exist only as refills.
