# What filament is pet/animal safe?

None of these rows is certified pet-safe, food-safe, or chew-safe. Hobby filament is not those things unless the maker publishes a specific certification, and this catalog does not store one here. The comments are a birdhouse and a resin picture of a dog.

A pet question splits in two: whether the plastic is an appropriate material in a mouth, a bowl, or a feeder, and whether a print survives weather. This catalog can answer the certification cell. It is empty on the rows below. [Food contact](/answers/food-contact) is the page for feeders and bowls. [Chemical resistance](/answers/chemical) is oils and solvents. [Medical and skin contact](/answers/medical) is the only place this catalog stores a certification string, and that page says the sheet still leaves suitability with the customer.
## Temperatures, with no pet mark

[Bambu PLA Basic](/brand/bambu-lab/pla-basic) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F), a bed of 35–45 °C (95–113 °F), and drying at 50 °C (122 °F) for 8 h, sheet checked 14 October 2026. [PolyLite PETG](/brand/polymaker/polylite-petg) lists 220–250 °C (428–482 °F) and a bed of 70–90 °C (158–194 °F) in the Open Filament Database, dataset imported 13 October 2026, and drying at 65 °C (149 °F) for 6 h on the technical data sheet, drying checked 18 October 2026. [Prusament PETG](/brand/prusament/petg) lists 240–260 °C (464–500 °F) and a bed of 70–90 °C (158–194 °F) in the Open Filament Database, dataset imported 13 October 2026. The row stores a [safety data sheet](https://www.prusa3d.com/file/3464624/prusament-petg-safety-data-sheet.pdf). No safety certification is listed. It is not a ranking of which one belongs in a bowl.

Prusa's [food-safe article](https://help.prusa3d.com/article/food-safe-fdm-printing_112313) says a printed PETG or PLA part still has layer grooves, pigments, and a brass nozzle that is not food-safe. A part an animal eats from or chews is that problem. The article does not add a pet exception.
