# How do I get good PETG prints?

Dry PETG if it pops or strings, start from the spool's manufacturer or slicer PETG profile, use low part cooling and a careful first layer, and put glue stick or a textured plate under PETG so it does not weld to smooth PEI.

Typical catalog ranges for common PETG spools are in the table. Use the row for the exact spool. The community summary's 230–250 °C (446–482 °F) nozzle and 70–85 °C (158–185 °F) bed are labeled as community process in the section below, and they are not a FilamentFacts lab result.

## When to choose PETG

[PLA](/material/pla) is the easier first print. Move to [PETG](/material/petg) when the part needs more heat tolerance than PLA and you can dry the spool. The side-by-side of two catalog rows is [PLA vs PETG](/compare/pla-vs-petg). The PLA failure list stays on [good PLA prints](/answers/pla_print).

## Plate and first layer

The bank's caveat is adhesion, not a temperature. PETG can weld to smooth PEI. Use glue stick or a textured plate. Keep part cooling low, slow the first layer, and raise Z offset slightly if the first layer is digging in. [Bed adhesion](/answers/bed_adhesion) splits that advice by material. This page does not publish a fan percentage or a Z-offset distance.

## Drying

Dry PETG when it pops or strings. Bambu PETG HF, PETG Translucent, and PETG Matte each list drying at 65 °C (149 °F) for 8 h. Creality CR-PETG does not list drying in our sources. The [drying guide](/answers/drying) keeps the community PETG band of 60–65 °C (140–149 °F) separate from those sheet values.

## Stringing

Stringing on a dry spool is the [stringing guide](/answers/stringing) and then [ooze](/answers/ooze). Do not treat a wet spool as a retraction problem.

## Catalog temperatures

Bambu PETG HF lists 230–260 °C (446–500 °F) and 65–75 °C (149–167 °F). Bambu PETG Translucent lists 220–250 °C (428–482 °F) and 70–90 °C (158–194 °F). Bambu PETG Matte lists 230–260 °C (446–500 °F) and 65–75 °C (149–167 °F). Creality CR-PETG lists 230–250 °C (446–482 °F) and 50–70 °C (122–158 °F). [ELEGOO PETG](/brand/elegoo/petg), [Hatchbox PETG](/brand/hatchbox/petg), and [Overture PETG](/brand/overture/petg) each list 220–250 °C (428–482 °F) and 70–90 °C (158–194 °F), and drying is not in our sources for those three. [PolyLite PETG](/brand/polymaker/polylite-petg) lists 220–250 °C (428–482 °F), 70–90 °C (158–194 °F), and drying at 65 °C (149 °F) for 6 h. Enclosure required is blank on every row named here.

## What the bank's comments actually are

The gear thread is about wear on a small tooth, and the badge thread is about a radar cover. Neither comment supplies a nozzle temperature. The process on this page is the editorial summary plus the catalog rows.

## What the community says

The editorial summary for this cluster is to print PETG with low part cooling, a slower first layer, and a slightly higher Z offset, and to dry the spool if it pops or strings. The caveat on the bank is that PETG sticks too hard to smooth PEI, so people use glue stick or a textured plate. The summary also names a nozzle band of 230–250 °C (446–482 °F) and a bed band of 70–85 °C (158–185 °F). Those bands are community process. They are not the catalog cells below. The highest-scored comments we have for this bank are off-topic, so this page does not quote them as settings.
