# Is Prusament worth the price?

These ranked rows list 190–260 °C (374–500 °F).

These threads treat the price as a shipping problem and name other PLA. The Jet Black product page states ±0.02 mm precision, a 215 °C (419 °F) nozzle, and a 50–60 °C (122–140 °F) bed. The catalog row from the Open Filament Database is wider.

Read the Jet Black page for the precision claim, and read the threads for the shipping complaint. [MK4 filament](/answers/mk4_filament), [Overture](/answers/brand_overture), [Polymaker](/answers/brand_polymaker), [budget filament](/answers/cheap), and [storage](/answers/storage) are the related pages.

## The rows

[Prusament PLA](/brand/prusament/pla) stores 205–225 °C (401–437 °F), a bed of 40–60 °C (104–140 °F), and a diameter tolerance of 0.05 mm from the Open Filament Database. The [Jet Black product page](https://www.prusa3d.com/product/prusament-pla-jet-black-1kg/) lists a nozzle of 215 °C (419 °F), a heatbed of 50–60 °C (122–140 °F), and ±0.02 mm precision. It also says each batch is checked against a color recipe so a second spool matches. [Prusament PETG](/brand/prusament/petg) stores 240–260 °C (464–500 °F), a bed of 70–90 °C (158–194 °F), and a 0.02 mm tolerance from the Open Filament Database, and it links a PETG data sheet. [Overture PLA](/brand/overture/pla) lists 190–220 °C (374–428 °F) and 25–60 °C (77–140 °F). [PolyLite PLA](/brand/polymaker/polylite-pla) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F) and 25–60 °C (77–140 °F). [Prusament](/brand/prusament), [Polymaker](/brand/polymaker), [PLA](/material/pla), and [PETG](/material/petg) are the indexes.

## Shipping and substitutes

[r/prusa3d 18wri1j](https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/18wri1j/) is a high-school order. The poster says a $480 filament order came with $180 shipping to the US. Those amounts are the post. The score-21 comment points at Micro Center Inland and describes it as mostly rebranded eSUN, with some Polymaker and IC3D. The score-19 comment says PLA above about $15 a spool is good enough. The score-17 comment names Atomic Filament.

[r/prusa3d 12eowfz](https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/12eowfz/) asks for a home-printer substitute for Prusament PLA and PETG. The score-25 comment names Printed Solid Jessie at $20–$25/kg in that comment. The score-10 comment names Overture PLA and PETG at about $20–$25 a spool in that comment. The score-9 comment has not tried Prusament because it looked like about double Polymaker. Those prices are the comments. This catalog leaves price blank.

## Storage, a bad MK4 surface, and a safety thread

[r/prusa3d 16r3koa](https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/16r3koa/) keeps factory-sealed Prusament and asks how long it lasts at 40–60% room humidity. The score-38 comment says PLA left out for five years still printed. A score-7 comment says the dry box is visibly better. [Storage](/answers/storage) is the guide. Five years is the comment.

[r/prusa3d 18sbxc7](https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/18sbxc7/) is Prusament PLA on an MK4 with a 0.4 mm Obsidian nozzle. The first layer is fine and later layers are not. The score-8 comment calls it slight over-extrusion, with an example of 0.42 mm where 0.4 mm was expected. The score-14 comment says switch back to the stock nozzle. The poster says the spool had eight hours in a dryer. Eight hours is the post. The PLA row does not list a drying time.

[r/prusa3d 1ekn24x](https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/1ekn24x/) shows Prusament lab results on carbon-fiber filament. The score-40 comment says technical and safety data sheets outrank a YouTube thumbnail. The [carbon-fiber guide](/answers/cf) is that material.
