# Which filaments work in the Bambu AMS?

The AMS handles most rigid filaments. Keep ordinary TPU out, skip very brittle carbon-fiber grades, and do not run a bare cardboard spool. Use an adapter, respool, or a product sold for the AMS.

## When to use which material

Load rigid [PLA](/material/pla) and [PETG](/material/petg). Leave ordinary [TPU](/material/tpu) for the [TPU guide](/answers/flex), printed from the spool holder on a direct drive. Leave very brittle [carbon fiber](/answers/cf) out of the AMS even if the printer has a hardened nozzle. [TPU for AMS](/brand/bambu-lab/tpu-for-ams) is the named exception and it does not list temperatures.

## Temperatures and settings

PolyLite PLA lists 190–230 °C. Prusament PETG lists 240–260 °C. PLA Basic and TPU for AMS do not list nozzle or bed temperatures, so those cells stay blank. Dry hygroscopic spools before they sit in the AMS. Moisture is the [drying](/answers/drying) problem, and a sealed AMS is not a dryer.

## Failure modes

TPU buckles in the AMS feed path. Brittle CF snaps. A cardboard spool slips or sheds dust into the feeder. The consensus fix for cardboard is an adapter or respooling, not a different PLA. A stainless nozzle on a P1S is a second reason to keep abrasive CF out, separate from the brittleness rule.

## Caveats

Adapters are not in the filament catalog. Do not invent a brand of ring. The AMS field on a printer page is the hardware note. It is not a list of approved filaments.

## Where this sits in the catalog

[P1S](/printer/bambu-lab-p1s) and [P1P](/printer/bambu-lab-p1p) list AMS. [X1 Carbon](/printer/bambu-lab-x1-carbon) lists AMS as optional and a hardened nozzle. [A1](/printer/bambu-lab-a1) and [A1 mini](/printer/bambu-lab-a1-mini) list AMS lite. PolyLite PLA on the P1S is [that settings page](/printer/bambu-lab-p1s/polymaker/polylite-pla). [Bambu Lab](/brand/bambu-lab) is where PLA Basic and TPU for AMS live.

## Ranked filaments

| Rank | Filament | Nozzle | Bed | Price per kg |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Polymaker Polylite PLA | 190–230 °C | 25–60 °C | — |
| 2 | Prusament PETG | 240–260 °C | 70–90 °C | — |
| 3 | Bambu Lab PLA Basic | 190–230 °C | 35–45 °C | — |
| 4 | Bambu Lab TPU for AMS | 220–240 °C | 30–35 °C | — |

## What the community says

The consensus is that the AMS handles most rigid filaments, and that you should avoid TPU, very brittle carbon fiber, and bare cardboard spools. Cardboard wants an adapter or a respool. The products named are the Bambu AMS and spool adapters.
