# How do I print ABS successfully?

Print ABS in a draft-free enclosure with little or no part cooling, start from the spool's manufacturer ABS profile, and ventilate for fumes; if you need outdoor UV resistance, prefer ASA instead.

Start from the manufacturer profile for the spool on the printer. The temperatures below are that spool's catalog row. [ABS](/material/abs) is the material hub.

## Enclosure and drafts

Keep the chamber free of drafts and use little or no part cooling. That is the process the summary credits for holding layers together. The enclosure-required cell is still blank on [Bambu Lab ABS](/brand/bambu-lab/abs), [eSUN ABS+](/brand/esun-3d/abs-plus), and [Creality ABS](/brand/creality/abs). This page does not fill that cell.

## Bed and cooling

[Bed adhesion](/answers/bed_adhesion) covers glue stick and the first layer. Glue is the extra step for ABS on the adhesion guide. It does not replace the bed range on the row. Bambu ABS, eSUN ABS+, and Creality ABS each list 90–110 °C (194–230 °F). Leave part cooling low. This page does not publish a fan percentage.

## Fumes

Ventilate. The bank's caveat is fumes and VOCs. One cited thread is about printing ABS in a bedroom. The practical reply in this summary is airflow out of the room.

## ABS and outdoor UV

Prefer [ASA](/material/asa) when the part lives in the sun. [Bambu Lab ASA](/brand/bambu-lab/asa) lists 235–260 °C (455–500 °F) and 90–110 °C (194–230 °F), with drying at 80 °C (176 °F) for 8 h on the sheet. [ELEGOO ASA](/brand/elegoo/asa) lists the same nozzle and bed, and drying is not in our sources. The [outdoor guide](/answers/outdoor) ranks ASA ahead of ABS for UV and does not publish a UV-hours test. [Heat](/answers/heat) is the separate question. There is no warping URL yet. Warping on ABS is the draft and bed problem on this page.

## Drying

Bambu ABS lists drying at 80 °C (176 °F) for 8 h. eSUN ABS+ and Creality ABS do not list drying. The [drying guide](/answers/drying) is the general method. Do not copy 8 h onto the rows that lack it.

A comment on the infrared-lamp thread points at NASA technical report 20170000214. The comment is a pointer. This page does not adopt a bed temperature, a lamp distance, or a chamber temperature from that report.

## What the community says

The editorial summary is that ABS wants a draft-free chamber, little or no part cooling, and ventilation, and that the chamber is what stops warping and layer splits. The summary also says a 100–110 °C (212–230 °F) bed. This page does not publish that band as a FilamentFacts fact. The three ABS rows below each list 90–110 °C (194–230 °F), which is wider than 100–110 °C (212–230 °F), and each figure stays on its own row. ASA is the outdoor alternative. One comment on the infrared-lamp thread points at a NASA report. This page does not take a temperature from that report.
